 How much of my time will this require?

  NONE OF IT. We take care of everything. The testing is automated.

 Why is it free?

  Because we're in beta.

 What tags are you testing with?

We'll send you a list of all your existing tags that we're testing with, and the new tags we're swapping them out for.

 How do you pick the tags to test with?

We use a combination of manual review and an algorithm that draws from a huge database of potential tags. 

​

 Which of my listings will you test with?

As many as possible to get the most data, which leads to the most answers. But only two to four tags per listing. We can send you a list of the tested listings once we start, if you'd like.

 What's the deal with testing with blanks?

If a tag doesn't bring much more traffic than a blank, then we know it's not great. So, testing with blanks helps us get to that conclusion quicker. There will only be blank tag spots a fraction of the time in your listings, and because this furthers the end goal of understanding the best tags for your shop, we think it's a good trade off.

 Will the testing impact my traffic?

It's highly unlikely. Since we're only testing with a fraction of your tag spots - and the tested tag spots will be blanks on a fraction of the time - AND most sellers get less than half of their traffic from search (which is where tags matter).....the tested tag spots just don't have the opportunity to have an impact. BUT using the list of ranked tags that we give you in the end to curate ALL your tag spots ..... that should definitely have an impact, and that's the whole point of course!

 Can I change my tags during the test?

Not in the listings that we're testing with - our system will actually just change them

back to what they were when the test started every hour - which would probably get pretty annoying for you :/

 What do I get out of this?

A list of 50 tags for each listing, ranked best to worst.

 How can you give me a list of 50 ranked tags per  listing when you're only testing with a few per  listing?

Magic. Or rather, math. The simple explanation is, all tags are related to each other in some way, and we can figure out this relationship by looking at how often they're used across Etsy, using linguistic rules, etc. Combining that relationshop info and the test results, we can figure out the list of 50. Ever wish you had the advantage of big data like big companies? Now you do ;)

 How long will it take?

  For most shops, a couple of weeks will do the trick. We'll run an analysis and  

  reach out to you at that point.

 Will all my tags go back to the way they were  when you stop the test?

Yes.

​

 Why can't you guarantee answers? 

We don't know what the data from your shop will look like. Maybe you don't get  

much traffic, or there's just something weird that's off with the data. We can't predict this.

 What if I want the test to stop?

Just write to me - caramae@whatify.com - and I'll immediately restore ALL your tags to the way they were the moment we started the test.

 How much of my time will this require?

NONE OF IT. We take care of everything. The testing is automated.

How does it work exactly?

Every hour, we randomly assign your listing to display one of two images as the primary image. We use the first two images you already have in the listing. Then we collect traffic data to see how many views your listings get every hour. We use that data to figure out which image draws more traffic. This is also known as a/b testing - used widely across the web and quantitative research everywhere :)

 Why is it free?

Because we're in beta.

 Which of my listings are you testing?

We want to optimize as much as possible for you, so unless you tell us not to, we'll test images for all of your listings.

 How do you pick the images to test?

We just test the first and second image that you already have for each listing, to see which one makes more people click on it.

 Will the testing impact my traffic?

Well, one of your images is the best for traffic - but you don't know which one yet. So, half the time during testing, you're using the image that leads to the most traffic. Once we give you the results, you'll know which image that is! and you can confidently make it your primary image permanently.

 Can I change my images during the test?

No.

 What do I get out of this?

The permanent increase in traffic that comes from using the best primary image for each of your listings.

 How long will it take?

Four weeks.

 Will all my images go back to the way they were  when you stop the test?

Yes. You can then change the ones you want, based on our results.
